JOSSOT – FROM GUSTAVE TO ABDUL KARIM – 1 x 54′

History

We are in France on the eve of the 1905 law separating Church and State. Gustave Jossot, a talented caricaturist and poster artist, anticlerical, nonconformist, and opposed to all forms of authority, created one of the very first illustrated political posters in France: ‘Down with the Skullcaps!’. When he settled permanently in Tunisia in 1911 and converted to Islam in 1913, he once again went against the ideas of his time.
This film explores the world of an artist moving between West and East.
