New Caledonia, late 19th century. Governor Feillet announces his intention to “shut off the dirty water tap” of the penal colony and promote coffee cultivation in New Caledonia. Vincent and his family settle in the La Foa–Canala region to work the land granted to them by the administration. Yet, despite the push of colonial expansion, ancestral taboos remain. Some of the local people come to warn them about the “cursed” nature of part of their property.
