CARTOONING THE REPUBLIC – 12 x 5′

Animation

Caricature is a sensitive seismograph of its time. Today, the striking impact of cartoonists on current events echoes more than two centuries of drawings that have marked the major changes in our society. Often dismissed by critics, remarkable artists nonetheless helped make caricature both a living art and a popular medium. ‘Cartooning the Republic’ revisits the history of the French Republic through twelve caricatures, each linked to twelve emblematic laws from 1791 to the present.
